This is a very busy seafood restaurant in the summer. In the winter it is quiet and laid back. Food was well prepared with good service. They had pre-fixe 3 course menu that had a large selection and was truly a bargain.

We went down to see the lobster pot Christmas tree. Made a reservation a few days in advance. They gave us a great table in the corner with a view of thetree. The wait staff was very distracted with the drones that were flying overhead. The meal was great and a good value. I look forward to coming back in the warm weather.

Went to Breakwater for lunch this afternoon. We had Allie as our server, super knowledgeable, friendly and paid great attention to detail. The restaurant is right on the water with lots of natural light pouring in, not a bad spot in the house! Got the breakwater salad with blackened chicken, delicious! Also had the blueberry bread pudding. It was buttery, and piping hot.

Had a wonderful lunch yesterday here. First time dining at Breakwater. Was recommended to me by an acquaintance. Very comfortable dining area with plenty of room to spread out. Had the cod fish tacos. Fish was excellent and the tacos were delicious, but a bit too many onions in the mix for my taste. On the other hand their NE Clam chowder was one of the best I’ve had in years. It’s chock full of claims and delicious potatoes. Its consistency is more like a stew than a soup. Just excellent. Our server Erin was as nice and as friendly and as efficient as can be. We were lucky to have her but everyone there seems very nice.

The Breakwater is an absolute amazing waterfront restaurant that offers guests exquisite seafood dishes, a great collection of beers and wines, gorgeous views of Stonington Harbor, and superb customer service.Located in Stonington, Connecticut, the Breakwater opened its doors to the public in 2015 and features both indoor and outdoor dining. In September of 2024, I brought and treated my wife and myself for dinner at Breakwater to celebrate her birthday and we very much enjoyed our dining experience!!!Both my wife and I were graciously welcomed and kindly treated by the restaurant’s staff, and we were quickly provided with a very comfortable dining table. Our server, Erin C made us feel right at home as soon as we were seated. Erin was very polite and friendly, addressed our menu inquiries, provided great tips on meal selections, and also provided recommendations for notable attractions for us to visit and see during our time in Mystic, Connecticut. Kudos to Erin for her endearing character and stellar professionalism!!!In addition to the great service, both my wife and I very much enjoyed our meals. We found our meals to be well cooked, perfectly seasoned and wonderfully delicious!!! I ordered and loved my chicken salad entree, while my wife cherished her salmon and brussel sprout entree. We’d also like to give credit to the staff for their well made Apple Crisp. Both my wife and I had this for dessert and it was a fitting Happy Birthday celebration dish!!!My wife and I would love to thank Breakwater for their great meal and service, and for helping to celebrate my wife’s Happy Birthday. We highly recommend for everyone to visit and dine at this outstanding restaurant!!!

Breakwater in Stonington is an incredible spot for dockside dining with views you can’t beat! The deck seating lets you take in the beautiful Stonington Harbor as you enjoy your meal and drinks—a perfect way to spend an afternoon or evening. The atmosphere combines a classic New England charm with an antique, cozy vibe that makes it extra inviting. The staff is friendly and attentive, adding to the overall experience. Whether you’re there for a casual drink or a full meal, Breakwater offers a truly unique and relaxing setting.

Breakwater offers a delightful combination of flavors and ambiance. We started with the crispy calamari, which was perfectly fried to a golden crisp, light, and tender. The tomatoes dipping source added just the right amount of flavor without overwhelming the dish. Each bite was satisfying, and the portion size was just good enough to share but still left you wanting more. For drinks, we opted for the Prickly Pear Margarita and an Espresso Martini. The Prickly Pear Margarita was a refreshing and vibrant choice. The balance between the sweetness of the prickly pear and the tartness of the lime made it incredibly smooth and drinkable. It was visually appealing as well, with its rich, pink hue and a touch of salt on the rim. I’m so in love with this drink. The Espresso Martini was the perfect way to end the meal. It had a rich, bold espresso flavor balanced by the right amount of sweetness and a subtle kick of Bailey. It was a dessert and cocktail all in one—smooth, creamy, and energizing. We sat outside, and the seating was perfect for a beautiful, sunny Sunday. The outdoor area offered a relaxed vibe with comfortable seating, making it an ideal spot to enjoy the weather. Overall, the experience was outstanding, from the attentive service to the delicious food and drinks. I will definitely be returning!

Fish and chips were delicious, not to much grease, crispy coating and the Cod was light and tender. Others had Hanger steak and shrimp tacos that were great. The view on the deck was fabulous. It was worth the ride from MA for a great experience.

First time eating here; loved the food and the vibe. Amazing selection of seafood and non-seafood options. Our party of four enjoyed the wine and beer list offerings, the strawberry mojito looked refreshing. The Breakwater Salad was a generous salad filled with fresh seasonal offerings. The Lobster Bisque was creamy with nice chunks of Lobster. New England Clam Chowder was thick, creamy and above average. My husband enjoyed his scallop dinner, half a dozen good sized scallops, which were tender and perfectly cooked served over a generous portion of golden French Fries, and coleslaw. Another in our party ordered the Truffle Fries, which were enjoyed, but not finished. I ordered the swordfish special, a nice portion, over tender crisp broccolini and risotto, I don’t usually eat the onion tangle garnish, but I tried these, and found them nicely done. Could have used a lighter touch on the citron sauce used for the swordfish, but it was still a very good dish. The Blueberry Bread Pudding for dessert was probably the best Bread Pudding I’ve ever had, sorry Gram, served with two generous dollops of fresh whipped cream. Service was fantastic, turned a good experience into a great experience. The prices are extremely reasonable for the quality and offering of the food - totally worth it.What honestly made this a spectacular dining experience was a perfect evening and lovely sunset overlooking the harbor while dining on the dock. Definitely recommended and would absolutely return without hesitation!

First time here, this area of Stonington is truly beautiful. The setting and views were perfect and the food was amazing. We had the hot lobster roll, seafood pasta, fish tacos and grilled seafood dinner and everyone loved their meals. The staff was very nice and the place is dog friendly which is a plus for us as we like to bring our small dog on these trips. Would definitely return!!!

Visiting Connecticut for the first time, we picked the best restaurant to eat the best clam chowder, lobster bisque, and lobster rolls. The drinks: blueberry old fashion and the strawberry mojito were delicious! And the atmosphere-top notch! We couldn't have picked a better day to sit out on the patio, overlooking the bay full of sailboats. The service was outstanding!

First timer with the family. GREAT location. Outdoor seating has a beautiful view. My wife said the scallops were the BEST she'd ever had. My son had the macaroni and cheese and everyone agreed that is was STELLAR (a lighter than normal but exceptionally tasty cheese sauce with shells instead of elbows). The clam chowder was very good. The only not as great item was the lobster salad roll. I've had much better in Maine and Boston but it was a solid three stars. I should have tried the tuna! Still, this is a five star place for sure.

I had the Jamaican Jerk chicken bowl which was DELICIOUS. So many different flavors and textures in my mouth and probably the best dinner I've had in years. They also are NOT stingy on their alcoholic beverages. I got one Carribean punch (?) And one painkiller and 2 hours later I'm still feeling it. Beautiful, peaceful atmosphere despite it being a cloudy day. I'm glad service was a little slower than I would have liked if sober but the wait allowed me to enjoy my beverage and patronage more. Thank you for a beautiful early birthday celebration.

Great location and atmosphere with views of the water from every table. The menu offers a nice variety without being overwhelming or pretentious. The Atlantic cod fish tacos were excellent, as was the tuna tartar bowl, and the crispiest sweet potato fries we’ve found anywhere. And, they have a private parking lot, which is a major convenience in this area because public parking is very limited. Looking forward to going back!
